On the churchyard of the Basilica of Bonaria there are two bronze sculptures, with a maritime theme, made by the artist Franco d'Aspro. There is a clear reference to the legend according to which in 1370 a Spanish ship was surprised by a terrible storm off the coast of the island and, having to lighten the load in order not to sink, the sailors threw various objects into the sea including one heavy wooden crate. The crate landed in Cagliari and it was collected by the friars who found inside a statue of the Virgin with the Infant Jesus in her arms.

The panoramic point of Europa Avenue, in Cagliari, is one of the most loved and appreciated destinations by tourists and residents. In addition to the spectacular view that is revealed before the eyes, with the bodies of water of the Molentargius Natural Park and the promontory of the Devil’s Saddle, the attention is drawn to the presence of the statue of Saint Francesco. The work entitled "Fratello Sole" and created in the 1980s by the internationally renowned artist Father Andrea Martini, depicts the famous religious from Assisi with his arm raised towards the sky.

The bronze statue of Saint Francesco d'Assisi was placed in Carlo Alberto Square, in the heart of the Castello district, on the occasion of the seventh centenary of his death. There are two statues in Cagliari dedicated to the patron saint of Italy: one is located in the panoramic point of Europa Avenue and another in the historic square which reveals a wonderful view of the cathedral of Santa Maria. Carlo Alberto Square is also known by the name of plazuela and it was the scene of numerous executions during the seventeenth century.

The statue of Carlo Felice stands a few steps from Yenne Square, in the heart of Cagliari. The monument was built by the will of the Stamenti, one of the arms of the Sardinian Parliament, in 1827, in honour of the king who wanted the construction of the royal road to connect Cagliari and Sassari, now known as the one hundred thirty-one (SS.131) or Carlo Felice. The work was carried out in 1830 by the Sassari’s sculptor Andrea Galassi. He created the plaster statue in Rome, used as a model for the bronze version, cast in the royal arsenal of the city under the supervision of the artist. The statue, in neoclassical style, depicts the king in the guise of a Roman soldier with his helmet on his head, his armour and he is covered with a toga. The work was completed in 1860 with the base built by the architect Gaetano Cima.
Not far from the statue, in Yenne Square, there is the military column, placed by the Viceroy Marquis of Yenne in 1822, to indicate the starting point of the Royal Route

Fra Nicola from Gesturi was born on August 5, 1882 and died in Cagliari on June 8, 1958. Belonging to the religious order of the Capuchin friars, he is revered as blessed by the Catholic Church. His liturgical memory is celebrated on the day of his death and his remains, together with those of Saint Ignazio from Laconi, are kept in the Capuchin church in Cagliari. He went down in history as the friar of silence, he spoke very little, outside and inside the convent, only to remember the will of God. During the Second World War he continued to give assistance to the most needy people, among the rubble of a city destroyed by bombing.
