Chiesa della Purissima

Purissima Church

The Purissima Church was built in the Catalan-Gothic style in the 16th century, along with the nearby monastery. It consists of one nave, divided into two spans with cross vaults, and six chapels with stellar vaults.

The Purissima Church overlooks via La Marmora, in the Castello district and was probably built after 1540 when the noblewoman Gerolama Rams Dessena wanted the construction of a cloistered monastery for the Clarisse. The interior of the building reflects the canons of the Catalan Gothic language: there is a single nave divided by a pointed arch and two cross-vaulted spans, with a pendulous gem in the center. The church was then acquired in the nineteenth century by the state following the law that established the suppression of religious orders and was used as a school.
