Dioecesan Historic Archive

The Diocesan Historic Archive has an extension of 1000 m², divided into 5 different sections, independent but complementary: conference room, management office, laboratories, storages and study halls. The most ancient and undated preserved scroll has been dated between 1114 and 1120. Together with other scrolls, known as "Vulgar Papers", it comes from the suppressed Suelli Diocese.

The documentation concerning the Archidiocese is successive to the XV century. In that period the Archive underwent a big fire which caused considerable depletions. The "Vulgar Papers" are in any case the most preserved ancient documents in the Archive of Sardinia.

Until 1980 the Archive was situated in small rooms at the ground floor of the episcopal palace: in the autumn of the same year it was moved to the rooms of the Diocesan seminary, where currently stays. Inside are preserved 450 scrolls ( from the XII to the XX century) and 4432 units from the XIV century to 1988, with documents in copy from 1070.
