This Monumental Church rich in interesting art works was founded, according to some sources, by the Templars in the 13th century.
Below the church is an impressive Crypt.
The Church of the Holy Sepulcher is located in the homonymous square, in the Marina district. There is certain information about this important temple starting from 1564 when the brotherhood of the Most Holy Crucifix of Prayer and Death was born, which had its headquarters right here. It was closed in the eighties following the state of decay and subjected to restoration works.
The simplicity of the facade contrasts with the richness of the interior: the single nave is surrounded by chapels decorated with frescoes, furnishings and works of art. Among all, in terms of size and artistic value, the Cappellone della Vergine della Pietà stands out, erected by the will of Viceroy Antonio Lopez de Ayala who thus fulfilled a vow made to the Virgin for the healing of her daughter. The church also houses an important Early Christian baptsimal font, brought to light in the sacristy during the latest archaeological excavation.
