Sound around the Island - Tenth edition

Tenth edition for  Sound Around the Island: the event produced by Teatro Alkestis in collaboration with Tàjrà APS, under the artistic direction of Luca Nieddu and Gianni Menicucci, returns to Cagliari.

For four days, the Teatro Alkestis becomes an ideal harbor and a place of crossings: music, poetry, theater, experimentation, and cultural blending will intertwine in a melting pot of sounds, colors, and languages, where every voice holds the traces of its own journey.

The event starts at 9 p.m. with "Sighida", that in Sardinian language means "continuation" or "follow-up," represents the meeting of two generations of music in Sardinia: on one side, a veteran like the Cagliari-born instrumentalist, composer, and researcher Mauro Palmas, with a rich background of experiences from an artistic career filled with successful productions and diverse collaborations; on the other, the twenty-year-old accordionist Giacomo Vardeu, with his extraordinary technical skill and surprising expressive maturity. The result is an exciting and engaging musical dialogue that, starting from the past, looks to the future through a repertoire that ranges from reinterpretations of Sardinian tradition to European and Mediterranean sounds.

At 9 pm Luisa Briguglio will take the audience on a journey through poetry and memory with her album "Truvatura," which explores themes such as desire and solitude through a mix of original texts and autobiographical material, performed in Sicilian. The closing day of "Sound around the Island" begins with a musical matinée by the duo Raoul Moretti and Mübin Dünen. The concert featured a blend of ancestral and contemporary sounds, using instruments such as the harp, santur, nay, and duduk, along with improvisations and original compositions.

In the evening, the festival celebrates the 30th anniversary of the choral project "A la vora del mar," directed by Rosalba Ziccheddu. The performance pays tribute to Catalan music and poetry, with actors and a quintet of Sardinian musicians on stage, interpreting works by various Catalan poets.
