For the first time in Sardinia, the Former Town Hall will host a very important exhibition dedicated to Antonio Ligabue (1899–1965), the rebellious and visionary painter who shook the artistic landscape of the twentieth century with the primal power of his images.
“Antonio Ligabue. The Great Exhibition” shows 60 masterpieces – including oils and drawings – that trace the entire creative journey of an artist beyond all conventions, capable of transforming his difficult life into an extraordinary pictorial adventure.
In Cagliari, visitors are invited to embark on a captivating route through the central themes of Antonio Ligabue’s universe: scenes of rural life, carriages, troikas, coachmen that evoke the memory of popular prints and rural tradition, up to the famous self-portraits in which the artist confronts his own face as a battlefield of the inner self.
Produced and organized by Regione Autonoma della Sardegna, the Municipality of Cagliari, Palazzo di Città – Civic Museums of Cagliari, Fondazione di Sardegna in collaboration with Arthemisia, the exhibition is curated by Francesco Negri and Francesca Villanti.
